Nuances and dynamics of diverse ideas, language, perspectives associated within and outside of their own cultural norms will be addressed. Ethical decisions related to discussing culturally relevant issues in the Black Deaf and Black hearing communities and how they impact the interpreting process and consumer satisfaction would be explored. The workshop will teach techniques for cross-cultural mentoring conflict resolution. A total of .65 CEUs in Professional Studies pending Continental Breakfast, Beverages, Lunch, & Snacks provided NorCRID is committed to creating a fully accessible conference. Carpenter is an interpreting education department coordinator at Columbus State Community College. She has interpreted in a vast array of settings for 18 years. She has interpreted in VRS for over a decade, she has been a conference interpreter, workshop presenter, and has been an interpreter conference coordinator. Royce holds an RID NICMaster certification. She has an Associate degree in Interpreting/ Transliterating from Columbus State Community College, a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Wilberforce University, and a master’s degree in teaching Interpreting Studies from Western Oregon University. In August of 2017 Royce traveled to Ghana where she volunteered to teach at the University of Education, Winneba with an amazing team from Western Oregon University. Royce also mentors novice interpreters and educators as one way to give back to the profession she loves. She has been married for 27 years and has three adult children and four grandchildren, all of whom she adores. Page 3: BayTOC FAQ Who are we? We are a collective group of Bay Area Deaf and ASL/English interpreters who recognized a need for social and professional development opportunities as well as financial assistance for interpreters of color Can I join? If you are an interpreter of color and there is availability the committee can vote you in. We maintain a maximum of 6 members and a minimum of 5 members at all times. Meetings are open to all interpreters of color. How may I apply for the scholarship? You must be a POC and an interpreter or interpreting student. If you are willing to interview either through video chat or attend in person with the committee then you will be considered for the scholarship. The funds may be used for any educational opportunity that will further your path towards being an interpreter. You must live in one of the counties in the Bay Area, although the scholarship can be used at conferences or workshops nationwide. Can I use the scholarship for test fees? Yes, if it is for the EIPA, NIC (written and performance) or CDI tests.
